I have a curious mind. I love taking on projects. I currently am juggling several software projects, home remodeling, landscape design, athletic training, coaching a championship high school softball team, and being a good father and neighbor.

Music

Anthony Sarain is a San Diego area musician with a wide range of musical experiences. He has performed in a variety of musical groups for over 25 years, from jazz to pop to world music. With a unique style, he has been influenced by diverse musicians from a variety of musical styles and a variety of musical instruments. Anthony’s performances have brought him to stages in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Mexico, and Arizona.

Anthony started performing at age 12, playing flute to an audience of 400 people. In his teen years, he was introduced to jazz, and completely fell in love. He quickly learned the saxophone, to enter the world of jazz music. While in high school and college, he played at world famous jazz festivals in Reno and Berkeley. While studying music theory and performance at Palomar College and University of California, San Diego, he started performing weekly at the Belly Up Tavern. This lead to recording sessions with a variety of San Diego artists, and valuable experience performing music in nightclubs.

While pursuing a degree in physics at UCSD, Anthony started playing in a variety of original music projects. One of these groups, Limbo Slam, achieved regional success, touring the West Coast and releasing a successful CD. Anthony not only performed, playing flute, saxophone, percussion, and singing, he also produced recordings, booked gigs, and managed the band.

Anthony has performed in almost every venue in San Diego: San Diego Qualcomm stadium, the San Diego Sports arena, Coors Amphitheater (Lollapalooza 2002), casinos, conventions, street fairs, nightclubs and private events. He has also extensive experience recording music, as a frontman and as a sideman. Other experiences include performing in the pit orchestra for musicals and classical music in a variety of orchestras and bands, playing flute, piccolo, clarinet, bass clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, recorder, and oboe.

A few years ago, Anthony started studying and performing world music, from African music to Middle Eastern music. The improvisational aspect of the music has been very satisfying creatively, blending influences from jazz, rock, and world music. This has also expanded the palette of musical instruments, including ethnic flutes, zurna, and percussion. Anthony enjoys performing all types of music, but is particularly drawn to improvisation. The act of creating music spontaneously is very fulfilling and challenging. He continues to study and explore various musical situations with passion and enthusiasm.
